The rugged new automatic Mahindra Karoo 4×4, with its 2.2 litre turbo diesel has been making noises in the offroad/farming/game viewing scene of late, making serious inroads into the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger stranglehold on the Southern Hemisphere bakkie/pick-up market. It certainly wins on price, and keeps up on offroad ruggedness – with its low-range gearbox, automatic rear diff-lock and torquey engine.
