Wage negotiations between the Road Freight Employers Association and the four transport unions are deadlocked - with the unions wanting a 9% increase but the RFEA offering  at 7% only, which was rejected on Friday afternoon after talks over two days.

The unions involved are the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu), the Motor Transport Workers Union (MTWU), the Professional Transport and Allied Workers Union (PTWU) and the Transport and Allied Workers Union (Tawu). They are parties to the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI).

In addition to its 7% increase, there is also a proposal from the RFEA to increase existing allowances by 6.5%, and an increase to extended bargaining unit (EBU) categories at 6.5%, The categories are still to be finalised.
