SIKA Supports Operation Smile In Eastern Cape

Operation Smile is an international medical charity whose global network of medical volunteers is dedicated to helping improve the lives and health of children in 60 countries. Providing free surgical procedures for children born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities, the charity also donates medical equipment and provides medical treatment through its worldwide centres.

Over the past year Sika has actively supported Operation Smile by holding employee days for staff, bringing their attention to the Operation Smile campaign and requesting them to hand out flyers in their communities. In June 2016, Sika SA sponsored all the flyers and posters in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa for the Operation Smile campaign held throughout the Eastern Cape. The awareness campaign ran from: 6 June – Butterworth Hospital, 7 June - East London Department of Health, East London - Eastern Cape NGO Coalition, 8 June - Port Elizabeth, 9 June - King Williams Town, 10 June – Umthata.

On 20 August 2016, the charity held the #Operation45 Corporate Cup soccer tournament to raise funds. Sika’s Joburg branch gathered willing staff members to build two teams, who gave the other corporate companies’ teams a good run around the field at the Randburg Sports Complex.
