Public transit operator Great North Transport (GNT) modernises bus fleet with MAN Lion's Explorer
Ten MAN Lion's Explorer buses have already been in service with GNT since July, with the remaining vehicles to be delivered by November 2013.
The three-axle intercity buses boast 80 seats and air suspension, making them very comfortable even on gravel roads in rural areas. Besides a 310-hp MAN D20 common-rail diesel engine complying with Euro 3 and automated MAN TipMatic transmission, the Lion's Explorer is equipped with a comprehensive range of safety systems such as Electronic Braking System (EBS) and ABS.
To ensure smooth operation of the buses, MAN is training GNT's service personnel in the correct handling of the vehicles. Servicing will be carried out by MAN's dealership Unitrans in Polokwane, the capital of Limpopo province.
Great North Transport will be operating the buses from its depots in Mokopane, Marble Hall and Hoedspruit. From there, the vehicles travel up to a hundred kilometres a day, on predominantly gravel roads. With its fleet of 540 buses, GNT transports around 37 million passengers a year.
